Olive Oil History
Gods’ gold
Olive-tree was perhaps born in Syria or in Palestine, the Holy
Bible speaks about Armenia, from where a dove flew, carrying an olive branch, at
the end of the Deluge, as a symbol of peace between God and man.
A Babylonian code, dated from 2.500 BC, already spoke about olive oil trade. Egypt
and Mesopotamia were for ages the only producers and traders of olive oil.
Greeks used olive oil to soothe bruises and wounds, too; they also used it as corroborating
food for athletes and soldiers. A strict legislation regulated and protected olive
trees tillage: as a matter of fact who uprooted an olive tree was condemned to exile
and to the confiscation of his property.
By the half of 1000 BF, Greeks introduced olive trees culture into Italian areas
of “Magna Greece”, where the plant still grows magnificently.
By alimentary tradition and link with land, olive oil is one of the most important
products of southern Italy agriculture.
Its nourishing values and its characteristics make olive oil a real cure all to prevent
the cellular ageing, as well as to preserve body from circulatory diseases.
